Jerry Onnembo began his law enforcement career in March of 1992 as a Correction Officer in the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office where he was assigned to the Bergen County Jail. After graduating from the Bergen County Police Academy, Onnembo worked in all areas of the facility including booking, intake, medical, housing units, patrol and was a member of the Sheriffs Emergency Response Team (SERT). Onnembo was promoted to Sheriff’s Officer and was sent to the Passaic County Police Academy to complete the Basic Course for Police Officers and returned to the Sheriff’s Office where he was assigned to the Homeland Security & Patrol Division. Onnembo served as the advisor to the Bergen County Sheriff’s Explorers Post and served as a Field Training Officer where he mentored new officers.

In January of 2006, Onnembo joined the Wood Ridge Police Department as a Police Officer. Assigned to the patrol division, Onnembo enjoyed protecting and serving his hometown. Onnembo was promoted to Sergeant in 2017 and Lieutenant in 2020.  In his career, Onnembo, is the recipient of 3 Life Saving Awards, 2 Unit Citations and a Commendation. Onnembo was also the Wood Ridge Police Officer of the Year in 2011.

Onnembo is a graduate of Hudson County Community College with an Associates Degree. Onnembo is a long time member of the Police Honor Legion of NJ and has served as President of the Wood Ridge Police PBA Local 313 and has been a member of the Italian American Police Society of NJ since he graduated the academy. Onnembo is currently the 2nd Vice President of the organization and serves as the Chairman of the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of NJ Holiday Toy Drive, Chairman of the Scholarship Committee & Co-Chairman of the Pasta Night Fundraising Committee. Onnembo currently serves as a Class III Wood Ridge Police Officer protecting the students and staff in the Wood Ridge Public Schools.
