Joseph “Joe” Simonetti, a native of Jersey City and has distinguished himself as a law enforcement leader in NJ. Joe, served proudly in the United States Air Force as an Airborne Early Warning Operator in Vietnam during the Vietnamese War. He discharged from the military as a Sergeant E-4. Joe began his career as a Belleville Police Officer after his military discharge. He quickly distinguished himself as a tenacious police officer in the community and rose through the ranks serving in patrol, narcotics, detective bureau, internal affairs and administrative sections for 29 years, retiring as a Deputy Chief of Police. He received many distinctions and awards throughout his career. Joe, received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Public Safety Administration from William Paterson University and his Masters in Education from Seton Hall University. He has been a professional educator assisting law enforcement officers in gaining promotions for many years. Joe, served as the Director of the Essex County College Police Academy for several years and is credited with improving its programs and services. He has served on the Italian American Police Society of New Jersey Executive Board for more than 20 years and is currently the Financial Vice President. He also serves on the Executive Board of the International Police Association, Newark Region 48. He has been active in the Belleville Knights of Columbus and has been involved with several other charities. He is the proud father of Scott, a retired Belleville Police Sergeant, and Dawn, who is presently an Assistant Prosecutor and Director of the Domestic Violence Unit of the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
