Fr. Joseph Anthony Michael D’Amico was born into a traditional Italian, Catholic and blue collar family and has many family members and friends in police, fire and rescue careers. Faith, family bond and food were main staples in his life growing up and taught him the most important lessons in life.
He’s a 1982 graduate of St. Francis Prep in Lafayette, NJ. A 1986 graduate from Don Bosco college with a double major in philosophy and education. After some teaching in grammar school and Preston High School in the Bronx he began his studies at Immaculate Conception Seminary at Seton Hall University earring a Master’s of Divinity and and ordained a priest in 1995. He later earned post graduate certificates in spiritual direction and counseling.
Throughout his 30 years of priesthood he’s served at Our Lady of the Lake in Verona, Saints Peter and Paul in Hoboken, St. Leo’s in Elmwood Park, St. Aloysious in Jersey City and is currently pastor of St. Anastasia in Teaneck.
In addition to being pastor of St. A’s, he’s chaplain for the Teaneck fire department. He’s put he’s training in spiritual direction to assist many men and women in blue in spiritual, moral or personal crisis. In the aftermath of September 11, 2001 he was asked to serve as a volunteer Red Cross chaplain to escort survivors and those who lost loved ones back to ground zero for prayer and healing.
He loves his life and is grateful for his to the priesthood but still wonders why God called him!
